Midlife—between the ages of 40 and 65—is one of the most critical windows for health transformation for one's future outcome. During this stage, a staggering 78.4% of adults report at least one chronic disease, with over half facing multiple conditions. But these statistics only scratch the surface.
Chronic diseases now affect 39% of the U.S. population, including conditions like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, cancer, stroke, and mental health disorders. And these aren’t isolated—they’re often rooted in a deeper cycle of stress, inflammation, and disconnection from the body’s natural rhythms.
Now, here's where middle age can get frustrating because it often brings a perfect storm of demanding careers, packed schedules, shifting hormones, and the emotional weight of supporting both children and sometimes aging parents—a tension known as the sandwich generation. It’s no surprise that this chronic pressure fuels anxiety, burnout, disrupted sleep, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances and inflammation.
Eventually, “pushing through,” downplaying self-care, and falling into unsustainable habits begins to take a toll—mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Unfortunately, when the stress becomes chronic, it contributes to chronic inflammation which hosts a cascade of issues that impact many areas of the body and systems and if left unchecked, can result in chronic disease and burnout.
Here's more hope, according to The American College of Lifestyle Medicine, 80% of chronic diseases can be. At Reclaimed Wellbeing we believe in the power of lifestyle medicine's six foundational pillars that can restore mental, gut, and physical wellbeing:
Eating more whole, plant-based foods
Regular physical activity
Restorative sleep
Stress management
Positive social connections
Avoidance of risky substances
Renew your Mind, transform your health
When our minds are renewed by God’s truth, our hearts are strengthened, and our bodies follow in obedience. As Paul writes in Romans 12:2, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, he is reminding us that true transformation in health, just like transformation in faith, begins not with outward change but with inward renewal. Transformation through renewed minds comes as believers expose themselves to God’s Word.
There is no magical formula for renewing our minds or for getting "Un-stuck". We must fill our minds with God’s Word because His word is what empowers us to throw "off" our old way of life, and ministers to our hearts.. Ephesians 4:22-23
As Jesus prayed to the Father, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth." John 17:17
